Canyon National Park, Wintertime |
The scenery at Bryce Canyon National Park is awe inspiring, majestic, and ever changing. Each year, hundreds of thousands of eager visitors scour this incredible landscape during the spring, summer and fall. But, did you know that the park is open year-round and that there is a vast array of fun activities to take advantage of during the ‘off season’?
Over thirty miles of cross-country ski trails in and immediately around Bryce Canyon are accessible during the winter. At 9,100 feet the park gets an annual average snowfall of 100 inches. And, for the snowshoe enthusiast, there is enough cold, white pack to get an awesome workout any day during the winter. You will need to bring your own ski and snowshoe equipment, as rentals are not available inside the park.
Or, you may just want to drive to the park and check out the amazing vistas where snow-capped, crimson “Hoodoos” stagger the imagination! Inside the park, maintenance personnel work tirelessly to keep the roads plowed and sanded. But, be prepared for temporary closures of some parts of the park during heavy snowfall.
The Bryce Canyon Visitor Center is open from 8 AM – 4:30 PM November – March. The center can be reached by phone @ 435-834-5322.
