For a quick but exhilarating mountain bike spin, close to town and easy to find, try the Church Rocks and Prospector loop north of Washington in the Saint George area. At approximately 10 miles in length, the loop is rated ‘intermediate’ and will take 2-3 hours. Go north on I-15 from St. George to the Hurricane exit, Hwy 9. About a mile, turn left (north) on old Hwy 91 where Telegraph Road intersects 9. The Cottonwood Trailhead sign will appear around the 2-mile mark. Turn left on the dirt road that leads back under the freeway and you will see a small parking area. Mount bikes there. While aerobically mild, expect pedaling over slick rocks and very soft sand during summer. Perfect views of the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.
